When I bought the 990 one of the first things I noticed and even asked about on the reflector was the noticeable "tin" audio on receive. Going back to the early 1980's I have owned a TS930, TS790, TS850, TS870, and TS950SDX so I have "listened" to a lot DX on Kenwood radios.

I bought it last February in getting back on the air after a 10+ year hiatus from the hobby.ģ) 6 months after I bought the 990 I kinda wished I had bought a 890 instead so it has been in the back of mind.Ĥ) The 890 is a "newer" design by 10 years.ĥ) When I boiled it down the things that make the 990 standout is the dual receivers and 200W PA, beyond that you get every thing else in the 890.Ħ) The 890 receive audio is NOTICEABLY better. I like the 890 better because it works and my 990 doesn'tĢ) Now my TS990 is 12 years old ( I am 2nd possibly 3rd owner) worked great up until few weeks ago. stay tuned for film at 11 on that one.the easy answer is I needed a another radio 8^). I have a new control board coming which is the most likely suspect. In 1980 I went from a Heath HW101 to a TS-930 and never looked backġ) Last week my TS990 Died.
